Donald Turner
– Art of the paintsmith

📷 Expressionist Australian landscapes in oil: Returning to art for the first time since school and university with some life experience is a wonderful thing. I suppose it’s possible to call yourself a paint smith without being too much of a try hard, given I was a “wordsmith” way back when.

Red heart

I was raised in the vast, quiet spaces of Min Min country between Dajarra and Boulia. My early life was spent listening to cattle, crows, wind and stories of the country. Returning to oils after years of words is a return to the physical world, a way of translating landscapes I remember into colourful experiences.

All human - AH

Return to tactile: I believe that even as we navigate a world increasingly shaped by the artificial, our desire for human touch is innate. Inspired by Peter Geen's regional expression, I want to capture through observation and memory the still, silent Australian landscape and characters within.
